I can’t say for sure what her origin story was. Perhaps one day the iris got confused about who he wants to become more – and turned into a drakogem. Or the Baby Dragon couldn’t choose between a flower and a jewel. Or maybe this is how treasures come to life, dreaming of blooming and flying…

A year and a half ago, in August 2020, I started making a Baby Dragon that I couldn’t help but do. It happened.

Zoryana appeared in a similar way.

And I didn’t even know how to describe her. Therefore, I asked for help from my Ukrainian friends. The one by Katerina Gunko from Odessa was the best fit.

It all started with the idea of horns.
The first Baby Dragon already had the horns. And at first the horns were plastic. The main advantage of plastic is its lightness, which does not need to be additionally compensated for by making it heavier. And I still use plastic horns … But not every style is suitable for them.

With the suede horns that I sew myself, there is much more room in the selection of colors. But suede is matte and has its own shape limitations.

Czech beads seem to be the solution. For a crest and a hide, they are really ideal. But they are rather short.

I was ready to come to terms with imperfection … And while I was sad about it, I looked at the photographs of the works of glass artists. Beads in the shape of berries, leaves, flowers … Maybe horns too?

At my own peril and risk, I wrote to Alyona Davydova, from whom I already bought gifts for myself and my friends. It was a bit impudent to offer your bead concept to an experienced bead maker. But I had to at least ask!

…It was a year ago. The other day I ordered her a new batch of horns. The old ones, by the way, are not all used up yet – and are waiting in the wings. The fact is that I do not order specific colors, but give only general recommendations for size and shape. And then I pick up the fabric and other materials. Close to what the fashion world calls collaboration. After all, Alyona Davydova creates not just “details” – but rather begins making a Baby Dragon, and I finish.

It’s been so hard to find out some time between orders for the Goddess of Explosive Autumn. And I implemented the old idea with sliding wings, making sure that I can do it, but it’s extremely difficult, so I don’t know when I will try again. But the lampwork bead from Alena Davydova came up perfectly!

It so happened that almost all Baby Dragons from second hundred flew away to their new homes. And often they flew away on that day when I finished them. I didn’t have time to admire them enough how I had to follow the tracker number … That is why every photo message about the successful reunion of the Baby Dragon with its human makes me so happy! And a separate great joy is the meeting of two Baby Dragons.

The main joy of this year: the site dragons-things.ru, launched in August. It is still not fully completed, but the bulk of the work is behind.

First of all, I want to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to Leigh Lee, who responded and helped to install a wordpress on my host, and then helped with advice. I also thank Roman Komarov, Olga Vlasenko, Katya Lamus, Natula Berezhnaya, Olga Lobodyuk and Vladimir Serebrovsky for your attention and tips. If I haven’t mentioned anyone, my apologize.

The site now has a permanent keeper (who knows much more in the word press than I do), so development will continue. There are many surprises ahead!
